We offer private/individual lessons (one student to one teacher) for 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes in the following areas taught by the artist/teachers listed:
Piano - Hassan Al-Mufti, Kenneth Atkinson, Joseph Brancato (jazz), John Bruckman, Jr., Shirley Chan, Suzanne Chapin, Edward Kramer, Fran Landis, Kenneth Young and Maria Zak
Music Theory and Music Composition (at the Computer) - Dr. Michael Zak
Percussion - David Gallagher (drum set), Gary Rutkowski and Michael Yanoski
Strings - Philip Banaszak (violin, mandolin and fiddling), Leslie Bahler (violin, viola and orchestra), Christine Treimanis (cello and chamber music) and Rebecca Torres (violin, viola and orchestra)
, Voice - Melissa Cruser, Maria Goodrich (Voice Department Co-Chair), Cheryl Hudson (Voice Department Co-Chair) and Audrey Shafer.
Woodwinds, Brass and Jazz - Karen Kohlhagen (flute), Carol McLaughlin and Mike Yanoski
Guitar and/or Electric Bass - Kevin Helfrich and Dr. Michael Zak
Effective September 2010, the cost for a 30-minute lesson is $20.50, a 45-minute lesson is $30.75 and a 60-minute lesson is $41.00. (The rates for lessons at the Jewish Community Center are $24.25, $33.87 and $43.50.)
An annual registration fee of $16 for the first person in the family, $26 for two and $32 for three or more also applies to lessons. Our year begins in July and ends in June. This fee is pro-rated after April 1 of the new year. (This fee is generally non-refundable except as specifically described in the Policies and Procedures.)
All lessons and classes are available at our main location on Elmwood Avenue. However, offerings at other sites vary. These other locations include Amherst Community Church in Snyder, Jewish Community Center in Getzville, Faith United Methodist Church in Lancaster, First Presbyterian Church in Lockport and St. Matthias Church in East Aurora.
CMS is also a collaborator in a 21st Century Community Learning Centers' afterschool program called Youth Town (offering Music Is FUNdamental! and Music Is Action) at Truman Elementary and Martin Road Schools in Lackawanna. This program involves the Girl Scouts, Steeler Sports Network, Way-Off Broadway Players, Buffalo State College's Center for Excellence in Urban and Rural Education and the Lackawanna City Schools.
CMS instructors are Chris Boyd and James Schwanz.
CMS also participates in another 21st Century Program at Southside Elementary School in South Buffalo. Joe Parisi teaches instrumental music/band in this afterschool program. The lead agency for this is Child and Adolescent Treatment Services (CATS).
